MUSI 309. FORM AND ANALYSIS. This course explores the structure of music through the lens of specific structural functions and processes (tonality, meter, and texture). The course examines the musical idioms, forms, and structures that serve as the basis of Western music of the Common Practice Period, and provides a framework for understanding the music of other cultures and time periods. Classroom activities include in-class analysis, score study, and student presentations. Reading assignments from the textbook and individual homework are assigned on most days to provide an opportunity for students to further engage with the musical concepts. Prerequisites: Music 203 and 205. Two hours.
