HIST 343. COUNTERFACTUAL HISTORY. A historiographical examination of counterfactual, or ?what if?, history from its uses by Herodotus to contemporary scholars. This course traces the history of counterfactuals as well as present debates surrounding the proper methodologies for integrating them into the historical discipline. The centerpiece of the course will be a solidly researched and methodologically sound counterfactual examination of the students? own design. Fall semester only, three hours.
