ENGL 322. MODERN IRISH LITERATURE. The purpose of this course is to introduce students twentieth century Irish literature via an in-depth study of two of that literature’s principal figures, W.B. Yeats and James Joyce. Other writers that may be studied include J.M. Synge, Samuel Beckett, Seamus Heaney, and Eavan Boland. Merging breadth with depth, the course focuses on all major literary genres, including lyric poetry, drama, and prose fiction. Alternate years, spring semester, three hours.
