Description

DESI 402 SERVICE LEARNING: DESIGN STUDIO. In this course, students will experience what it is like to work with real clients while functioning as a collaborative and creative team. Unlike traditional assignments directed by the professor, projects will be defined by the needs of the client, giving students the opportunity to apply their Christ-centered design skills in service to real people and real organizations with real needs. The course emphasizes not only design excellence but also professional practice. How students prepare for client meetings, present themselves and their work, to the client, collaborate with teammates and deliver solutions in a timely manner will be as important as the quality of their creative output. Students will also be introduced to the concept of a Statement of Work (SOW) that outlines deliverables, timelines, and client expectations. Through this experience, students will gain valuable exposure in project/time management, client communication, and professional accountability alongside their design work itself. Prerequisites: Design 102, 202, junior or senior standing, or permission of the instructor. Three credits.
