Description

BIOL 310. PUBLIC HEALTH AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE. This course offers a unique opportunity to explore the pathological relationships that affect the health of animals and man within the global community. General virology, bacteriology, parasitology, and mycology will be discussed with special focus on the history, ecology, pathology, and epidemiology of specific zoonotic diseases of current importance. Preventative medicine, population and global health, and “One-Health” concepts will be discussed. This course has special and timely importance in preparation for all pre-health professional careers. Laboratory sessions may include field trips to local areas of public health interest as well as guest speakers from the community. Three lectures and one lab per week. Prerequisite: Biology 234. Biology 233 is suggested. Alternate years, spring semester only, four hours.
