Description
WRIT 481. ADVANCED MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT. This course serves as an advanced seminar for the creative writing minor, giving students the opportunity to develop work already begun, with guidance toward professional or academic submission. Students must come into the class with at least 20 pages of poetry or 60 pages of a novel, memoir, or collection of essays or stories. We will read and critique each other's manuscripts, produce additional pages over the course of the semester, and read short works on craft. Students will work toward a substantial final project: a prose or poetry manuscript accompanied by either a query letter addressed to literary agencies or a portfolio of the student's best prose or poetry accompanied by a statement of purpose. Prerequisite: students must submit a writing sample and project description to the instructor in order to be accepted into the course. Offered periodically, semester course, three hours.
