Description
WRIT 481. ADVANCED MANUSCRIPT DEVELOPMENT. This course serves as an advanced seminar for the creative writing minor, giving students the opportunity to develop work already begun, with guidance toward professional or academic submission. Students must come into the class with a substantial project of poetry, novel, memoir, essays, or short stories in progress; a minimum page count requirement will be specified by the instructor at the time of registration. We will read and critique each other’s manuscripts, produce additional pages over the course of the semester, and read short works on craft. Students will work toward a substantial final project: a prose or poetry manuscript accompanied by either a query letter addressed to literary agencies or a portfolio of the student’s best prose or poetry accompanied by a statement of purpose. Prerequisite: students must have taken at least one 300-level creative writing course unless granted permission by the instructor. Offered periodically, three hours.
