Description
WRIT 356. GENRE FICTION. This course will explore cultural conceptions of “literary fiction” and “genre fiction” through: (a)., reading accessible scholarly commentary that will help to historicize these terms (b)., reading works that helped give rise to several contemporary genres alongside contemporary works that “play” with these genres, and (c)., writing and workshopping short fiction inspired by course readings. Prerequisite: students must have completed WRIT 271: Intro to Creative Writing or have permission from the instructor. Alternate years, semester course, three hours.
