MUSI 334. ORCHESTRAL LITERATURE. This course has been designed to prepare instrumental music majors to analyze, aurally and visually, the repertoire of the modern-day symphony orchestra. Topics to be explored include, but are not limited to, various time periods, genres and geographical influences on orchestral composition; analysis of compositions for various compositional elements and historical background; and compositional form, instrumentation, pedagogy, and performance practices. Alternate years, semester course, two hours.
