MUSI 327. PIANO LITERATURE. This course is a study of the literature for the piano, beginning with works of the 17th century intended for harpsichord, and ending with the 20th century works for the modern piano. The course includes a general overview of keyboard music in each historical era, as well as a selective list of works from each era for in-depth study. The historical approach highlights the development of the instrument and the development of compositional styles, performance practices, pianistic idioms, and playing techniques. Alternate years, semester course, two hours.
