FREN 307. FRENCH COMPOSITION AND STYLE. The purpose of this course is to refine students’ overall ability to write in French, both at the level of content/structure, as well as grammatically. Through a process-based approach to typical written assignments in the francophone world, students will hone their ability to communicate clearly and with greater sophistication. To prepare for writing their own compositions, students will read texts in the target genres in order to identify effective argumentation, style, and tone. Subsequently, students will be able to observe models of structuring ideas and opinions in French, throughout the francophone experience, and then to compare them with their own ability to do so in English. The course will review and parse key grammatical structures that frequently impede mastery for students at an advanced level.
