ENGR 482. CROSS CULTURAL INTERNSHIP FOR ENGINEERS. The Cross-Cultural Internship for Engineers provides students with an opportunity to apply engineering knowledge and professional skills in a cultural context different from their own home culture. This course provides an opportunity for international students to gain credit for working at an internship in the United States, while domestic students gain credit for working outside of the United States. Students are expected to demonstrate effective communication, professional and ethical responsibility, teamwork, and adaptability in diverse cultural and organizational settings. Required components include an on-site manager evaluation, a reflective journal documenting technical tasks and cultural observations, and a final paper analyzing the experience in relation to academic theory, engineering practice, and global and cultural factors. Credit may be received a maximum of two times. A minimum of 320 work hours (8-week experience with 40-hour work weeks) is necessary. Permission of the department chair is required. One hour.
