ENGR 340. FUNDAMENTALS OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING. This survey course will provide students with a broad overview of the interdisciplinary field of biomedical engineering. Students will learn to apply principles of mechanics of materials, fluid mechanics, circuits, optics, and chemistry to solve problems associated with the medical field. The course is organized into 4 modules that each explore a major area of biomedical engineering including, but not limited to: rehabilitation devices, instrumentation and sensors, medical imaging, and pharmaceutical engineering. Module topics may vary from year to year. Students will explore cutting-edge innovation in weekly journal clubs and learn about a specific Biomedical Engineering topic in a semester-long research project. Prerequisites: Mathematics 162, Physics 102 or 122, and Chemistry 105 or 111. Spring semester, three hours.
