ENGL 203. AMERICAN LITERATURE SURVEY I. The first semester of the two-semester survey of American literature focuses on representative works from the time of the discovery of America to the Civil War. Attention is concentrated on major writers and their works in each period with some consideration given to all genres except drama. English majors are strongly encouraged to take 203 before 204. Three hours.
