MACROSCOPIC PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY:STATISTICAL, MECH, THERMO, KINETICS (CHEM 346)

Term: 2015-2016 Spring Semester

Schedule

Mon-Wed-Fri, 11:00 AM - 11:50 AM (1/18/2016 - 5/10/2016) Location: MAIN STEM 050

Description

CHEM 346. MACROSCOPIC PHYSICAL CHEMISTRY: STATISTICAL MECHANICS, THERMODYNAMICS, AND KINETICS. The relationships between the properties of macroscopic systems are developed to gain an understanding of chemical equilibrium. The principles of statistical mechanics are introduced to show how thermodynamic properties can be predicted from molecular properties described by quantum mechanics. Connections are developed between chemical kinetics and reaction mechanisms. Three lectures and one lab per week. Prerequisites: Chemistry 112 and 114, or 105; and Mathematics 261. Spring semester only, four hours.
