Description

BIOL 416. BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE OF THE GENOME AGE. An introduction to the field of biomedical sciences; the application of scientific principles to understand disease and improve human health. Topics include genomic/epigenomic basis of health and disease, accession of large transcriptomic databases, tools for production and analysis of largescale biological imaging datasets, and introduction to basic bioinformatics tools. The lab will be
computer-based: testing hypotheses using large public datasets using TCGA, cBioPortal, QuPath image analysis and others. Aimed at biology majors, no previous programming skills required. Prerequisite: Biology 233. Alternate years, spring semester, four hours.
