Description

BIOL 233. GENETICS. An exploration of modern genetics that begins with the molecular biology of gene function. Emphasis is placed on DNA structure, replication, and the regulation of gene expression. This is followed by a discussion of Mendelian genetics, including the fundamental principles of inheritance and the effects of mutation. The course concludes with topics related to genetic variation including genome architecture and how genomes change over time. Three lectures and one recitation per week. Prerequisite: Biology 101. Fall semester, four hours.
